With the energy transition as a global project, Energie Zukunft Schweiz AG has grown in just a few years to around 200 employees, with subsidiaries in five, soon to be six, countries. For years, the company has been committed to, among other things, the efficient procurement of biomethane, from the very beginning with an international perspective. Electricity and biomethane trading was therefore spun off as a 100% subsidiary at the beginning of 2023 and became part of the new, international group of companies.
“Our expert team and our vision remain in place and guarantee continuity.” To make the vision of being a leading force on the way to a fully renewable energy world a reality, Renera attaches great importance to reliable, long-term partnerships with players in the energy industry.
At 450 GWh, around 20% of Switzerland’s biomethane imports in 2022 ran through Energie Zukunft Schweiz AG. “Biomethane has great prospects for the future. We are convinced of this,” emphasizes Antonia Rieple, Head Origination Renera. She further explains “However, biomethane is not available in Switzerland in sufficient quantities to implement the target of a 15% share of renewable gas by 2030 and beyond.”
This is exactly where Renera comes in. With an excellent network and partnerships in numerous countries, Renera enables energy utilities to procure high-quality biomethane on a long-term basis. Around 30 Swiss energy supply companies currently purchase their biogas through Renera. In addition to purchasing biogas from existing plants, Renera also actively promotes the certification of suitable plants abroad, as well as the development of new projects. “Projects with additionality are particularly valuable,” says Antonia Rieple, “That is, projects that would not have been implemented without us.” In this way, Renera ensures its partners biomethane of the desired quality with complete transparency in the long term.
